Progast® Butyric Acid Complex is scientifically formulated to create a healthy environment for your good bacteria to thrive and at the same time prevent excess levels of bad bacteria from entering the blood stream.

The two primary ingredients in our Butyric Acid Complex are Butyrate and L-glutamine – both providing fuel for the epithelial cells of the intestines.

For most of us, treating the symptoms of digestive issues such as bloating or constipation, has become the new normal. We use over the counter heartburn medication, laxatives or take potent pre- and probiotic supplements with multiple strains.

What we are most likely dealing with is not the lack of good bacteria, but pathogens such as Gram-negative bacteria, viruses and worms that manage to cross the gut lining and penetrate the blood-brain barrier, causing life-threatening inflammation.

If you have dysbiosis (a disrupted gut microbiome) and gut problems, you have inflammation. If you have a protein rich diet and low stomach acid, and not enough enzymes, you have Intestinal permeability, or what we would prefer to refer to as ammonia permeability.

Resolving ammonia permeability, is one of the main steps in addressing inflammatory gut conditions. At the same time, we need to keep the gut lining healthy and the cells in the gut wall well supplied with nutrients such as butyrate and L-glutamine. Vitamin B6 synthesizes glutamine from glutamate and ammonia.

Butyric acid (also known as butyrate) is a short-chain fatty acids produced by probiotic fermentation of fibre and is the primary source of energy for the colon cells. Butyric acid production may be reduced in patients with, or who have had, an unbalanced and low-fibre diet, intestinal inflammation, antibiotic use, or bacterial microflora disturbances. Without butyrate, these cells in the colon (colonocytes) die.

Due to cross-talk between the gut and the brain, inflammation of the gut and brain are related. Butyric acid enhances our neuroplasticity and delays brain ageing conditions. Loss of neuroplasticity causes the trademark mental decline associated with Alzheimer’s and dementia. Thus, the microbiome produces essential molecules that we require in order to regulate our cognition, mood and behaviour. Ground-breaking treatments are using butyrate to treat neurodegenerative diseases, depression and cognitive impairment.

L-glutamine is the preferred energy source for the cells that line the small intestines. As an essential amino acid, L-glutamine may be depleted by certain pharmaceutical drugs, exhaustive exercise, during severe metabolic stress including surgery and inflammatory states. When the body is unable to produce enough L-glutamine to meet its needs, we need to supplement.

Exercise is recommended to reduce inflammation, and by taking L-glutamine, we can modulate the possible additional inflammatory response resulting from exercise.

We added L-glutamine to  Progast® Butyric Acid Complex as it plays an integral role in maintaining the health of the gastrointestinal tract as well as the immune system. Furtermore, L-glutamine ensures proper acid-base balance.

Progast® Butyric Acid Complex  helps to alleviate symptoms of abdominal discomfort, pain, cramps and intestinal spasms, bloating, flatulence, nausea, chronic constipation, heartburn and reflux.

DRCaps®

Progast® Butyric Acid Complex is odour free, encapsulated in novel DRCaps® for maximum freshness and targeted release throughout your gastrointestinal (GI) tract. The novel DRCaps® protect the ingredients from degradation in the stomach by stomach acids and can also help mask taste and odor and reduce bad aftertaste without the addition of costly coatings.

DRcaps® capsules are innovative HPMC (hydroxypropylmethylcellulose) capsules. Owing to their plant-based origin, HPMC capsules are preferred over gelatine capsules by consumers pursuing a plant-based diet. HPMC capsules are also preferred for consumers wanting non-GMO and free-from delivery formats as they are free from preservatives, allergens, starch and gluten.

Certified Vegan, Non-GMO, Vegetarian Society, Halal and Kosher certifications.
